Alexander leaned closer to point at one of the revised layouts, his hand brushing briefly against Selena’s elbow. Small gesture but barely noticeable. Matthew noticed it anyway. “The open space is a waste,” he said loudly enough for the nearby team to hear, eyes fixed on the plans. “It sacrifices functionality for aesthetics. We’re not building an art gallery.” Selena turned to face him fully. The shift in energy was immediate. Workers went quiet. She met his gaze steadily. “No. It creates breathing room. People don’t pay millions to feel trapped in marble boxes, Matthew. They want spaces that make them feel something.”

“This wasn’t a good place to talk. Eve The War Room isn't a smoky backroom filled with men playing poker. It looks like the flight deck of a spaceship crashed into an industrial loft. Located in a nondescript warehouse in the Meatpacking District, the space is dominated by a massive, U-shaped bank of monitors suspended from the ceiling. Beneath them sits a sleek, tempered-glass command table that glows with a faint blue light. The air is frigid, kept super-cooled for the servers humming behind a glass wall, and the air is redolent with the smell of espresso.

I only know that I need distance, space, time. Anything but that room. Anything but him.
