Instead of facing his own demon, Sabrina's father took his own life in front of his family, scarring his own daughter for life. Being a non-fiction novelist, most of my stories are about people’s experiences. I collect facts through research and interviews, then retell the stories through books. My stories, in turn, memorialize their contributions in life and highlight their suffering and pain. This way, they shall be remembered and hopefully, their story helps someone along the way, someone who currently faces these difficulties.

Mara — The Art of the Half-Truth The folder sat between them like a third person in the room. Mara had learned, in four years of becoming what Hayes had made of her, that the most effective lies were not the ones built entirely from fiction. Fiction had gaps — places where the architecture showed, where the light came through wrong and the person you were lying to felt the draft without knowing where it came from. The most effective lies were the ones built around a true thing, the way a house is built around a load-bearing wall. You constructed the fiction outward from something real, and the realness held everything up.

I whispered again. Kissing Tania’s cheek, I gently spoke into her ear. “Are you alright Tania?” She finally stirred, and then opened her eyes. “That was the best experience I’ve ever had, how did you learn to do that?” “Oh, it’s something I read about in an erotic story,” I lied. They pull you out of reality and instead allow you dwell in your delusions for hours and hours. And at the end what happens? Wasted time. Unproductivity alongside disappointment when the harsh reality comes knocking on their door.” “Wow,” Emily couldn’t believe her ears. “You know, you sounded like you know much about fiction. Romance to be precise.”

Time seemed to be moving more slowly as we drew nearer to the water beneath us. 3. Winning my sixth grade spelling bee... I tried blocking out the excruciating pain screaming at me in my ear, every second we were plunging further and further down. 4. Art classes with Miss Miller... I consoled him and gave him some water. “She locked me up in the store room” “WHAT? IN THE STOOR ROOM? HOW DID YOU COME HERE! Tell me everything.” I questioned. “I was locked inside since morning and when she opened me up, I ran and hid here. In this world full of magic, demonic beasts and restrictions, they live on the run, abandoned by their parents. Not being accepted anywhere in the world they have to survive on small illegal jobs and from time to time to plunder.
