It all sounded so ridiculous now that I was about to vocalize it to his face. “I may not be a mortal, but I’m not a God.” He chuckled darkly. “Then what are you?” I asked, terrified to hear the answer. “A reaper.” He whispered, and my blood turned to ice.

I looked at him straight. "Reaper is dying," I said. "The forced enhancement he took to save Eva is killing him slowly. He has less than a year. If that synthetic nexus point completes and destabilizes the dimension it accelerates every enhancement-related deterioration currently active. Hayes. Vera. Reaper. All three of them die faster.
