The coffee shop Agent Reyes had chosen sat two neighborhoods away from anything with the Carter name attached to it — a small, unremarkable place with mismatched chairs and a chalkboard menu, the kind of location that seemed deliberately, carefully anonymous. Maya sat across from him in the corner booth, Elias and Damien flanking her on either side, all three of them nursing coffee they weren't actually drinking.

Maya smiled mysteriously. "Well, you need somewhere he'd never think to look." I stared at her blankly. Was there anywhere in this city Ryan couldn't track me down if he really wanted to? I took another deep breath, thinking of a change in tactics. “That’s fine, May. You just haven’t told me about your wild night and I’m curious. Yana had made the bed before she came back so she just laid on the bed and soon dozed off in the dream land. Maya found herself in a desolated street, dressed in a black pant and shirt. She looked around and saw a motel, having a round circle with bulb in it that made it look like the moon and the real moon was just adjacent it. it was cold and nowhere to spend the night, she decided to go to the motel. She entered the motel and approached someone who seems to be the receptionist. "Good evening, ma'am. I'd love to have a room here but I don't have cash on me"

Maya had left with Marcus so he could help her get somewhere to settle first because she refused to stay with Emma and ryan even though he had more than enough space. Emma came in right behind him with her purse and a small tote bag, watching him closely. “You know you're supposed to be resting, right?” she asked. Ryan gave her a tired look. “I am resting.” Emma raised an eyebrow. “You're literally standing.” He let out a small laugh. “I can rest while standing.”

The bar on the edge of the French Quarter was half-dead at 1:47 a.m., neon flickering, air thick with spilled bourbon and cheap incense. Maya had come here alone after a long shift at the ER, still in scrubs under her denim jacket, hair pulled into a messy knot, dark skin flushed from the heat and one too many mezcals. "She's in a really bad shape, Sir. Naked, half-dead. We found her in an abandoned house deep in the woods in Oregon. She's covered in thick bruises. Barely breathing," He paused to catch his breath. "We were on our way to a nearby hospital, and a roadblock appeared out of nowhere. If we don't take her to the hospital

I agree. We drive to the mall. I count what I have in my purse while they're choosing their flavours and decide we can manage it if I skip the coffee I was going to get for myself.
