A slow, admiring smile curled on her lips as she eyed me from head to toe. “Your face looks kind of pale, though. Just put some light makeup on, and you're ready to go.” Cassandra said, and when I surveyed my face closely in her vanity mirror, I realized she was right. I borrowed Cassandra's lipstick and applied it to my lips. Even after lightly applying it, the finished look still seemed too intense for me. So I rubbed my lips with my forefinger to lighten the color until I was satisfied with the result. Afterwards, I pressed my stained fingers on my cheeks to create a blush to conceal my paleness.

I look into the bathroom mirror and see the face of a sullen, unfamiliar woman looking back at me. My usual latte skin is now pale and sickly, my eyes are puffy and bloody shot, only made worse by the intense bruising that instead of bruising around the gash across my stitched-up forehead, has chosen to travel down and bruise all over my right eye. I don’t think there’s a cosmetic company around that makes this shade of purple. My lip is crusty, split and still a bit swollen along with the right side of my face. It’s strange though. It’s as though how I’m feeling on the inside is perfectly reflected on my face: beaten, bruised, split open and drained.

She took a small mirror and adjusted it for me to look at my face. “Look.” She said, I looked at myself in the mirror and noticed that my face was all red. I touched my face to see if it was real. “What do you mean?” I asked her. “Your face.” "My face is normal. What about my face?” “It’s all red.” “So what?” “You’re blushing right now.” “It’s just normal.” “Which is? Your face was pale when I saw you at the airport.” “The temperature is hot.” “You’re blaming the temperature now.”

I nodded and smiled at her. “Thank you for always standing up for me” and Keisha smiled. “Common, take a look at my masterpiece, trust me you'll be a walking temptation tonight, you won't even remember that bitch” I laughed and stood up to look at the makeup. I was totally in awe of how light and fragile it made my face look. The blush made my green jade eyes stand out. “What the hell did you use, I look so glassy and I feel like I'm going to break if I touch my face” I said and Keisha chuckled.

Cyrus replied confidently, "Yes, it's eyeshadow." "Wrong." Cyrus gave her another ten envelopes of money. She said, "This is a blush" George frowned. "It's obvious that there is also yellow in it." Sigrid explained quickly, "The yellow color is an orange shade of blush. There are also purple and light pink. However, they are all known as blush." George was speechless. Women were so troublesome. They were clearly yellow, purple and light pink. However, they only said that all of it was blush! What happened to the other three colors that got ignored? Why weren't those three colors included as well? It was so unfair!

A light pink blush made my pale skin glow, and a vibrant red lip completed the look in the most impeccable way. I stared at myself for a long moment, taking in every dazzling aspect of myself. A deep flush flew through me, heating my body slightly. I've never looked so pretty before. The mark on my shoulder sat openly for all to see. I turned around and saw the fresh mark on my back. It was circled by a red ring of irritated flesh, but it also sat in an uninterrupted view of anyone who wanted to see it.

I blinked. Then I looked closer. Her face was a messy mix of colors that didn’t belong together. A thick layer of powder sat unevenly on her cheeks, clinging to some spots and missing others, leaving patches of her natural skin showing through. Bright red lipstick had been dragged far past the lines of her lips, smudged at the corners and faintly streaked across one cheek where she must have wiped her face.

She committed, the speed with which she did it even surprised herself. She had no other choice. Right now, she just wanted to leave as soon as possible; she could already feel her face heating! She didn’t wear makeup today, so the blush on her face was clearly visible. Wouldn’t it be unusual if her face turned red in this situation? If she were her usual self, she would tease and mock Travis, but today she couldn’t do any of that. For a moment, she regretted not putting on at least a little makeup. Even if it was just a thin layer, it would still help cover her blushing face.

“You totally are.” “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She grinned. “Something making you nervous?” “Nope.” “Then why is your face all red?” Jack stopped walking and leveled her with a glare. She halted in her tracks and curled an eyebrow at him, not at all phased by the expression on his face. “I don’t blush,” he said. “It’s just cold out here.” She laughed and clapped her hands together. “It’s not cold out here, and you’re totally blushing. That’s so cute!”

It was difficult to suppress, so she bit down on her lower lip, a makeshift dam against the joyous ripple threatening to spill over. Heat radiated from her cheeks, spreading to the tips of her ears. It felt like a telltale blush, a delicate bloom of roses on her fair skin. She was acutely aware of Azazel's piercing gaze on her, his amusement as palpable as the plush velvet beneath her fingertips. She prayed, oh how she prayed, that her blush wasn't as noticeable as she felt it was. A silent plea to the universe, her wishful attempt to hide the overwhelming emotions playing across her face.
