VANESSA'S POV The land itself began to bleed. The hard, red earth deepened to a burnt umber, then to the color of dried blood. The air grew hotter, thicker, carrying the distant, metallic tang of a thousand forges and the ever-present dust. We were close. Then, we saw it. Crimson Sands.
