Azathoth isn't so much a character you 'depict' as a plot device you orbit. The whole 'mindless nuclear chaos at the center of the universe' thing is deliberately anti-narrative. A lot of later adaptations or fan works try to give it motivations or a personality, which kind of misses the point. For Lovecraft, the terror was in the concept of a blind idiot god whose dreams are reality, and whose waking would end everything. There's nothing to bargain with, no reason for its existence. It's just there, a cosmic accident of infinite power.

Reading the original references in stories like 'The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath' and the Fungi from Yuggoth sonnets, you get the sense of a background hum of madness. It's less a deity and more a fundamental force of the universe's inherent meaninglessness. The idea that all of creation is the byproduct of its sleeping nightmares is the ultimate downgrade for humanity's self-importance. Makes Cthulhu look like a manageable local problem.

Honestly, I find discussions about its 'power level' compared to other Outer Gods kind of funny. That's turning it into a comic book villain. The horror is that it's not a villain; it's an absence. You can't depict it, only the effects of its proximity on everything else. The best Azathoth stories are the ones where it's just a whispered name that drives people mad because they glimpse the architecture of their own reality.
