he said. “I don’t know,” I said truthfully. “When I awoke and they were there…just there.” He took up a page and scowled. “These aren’t just drawings. “These aren’t just drawings. These are sigils.” I frowned. “Like magic?” Elias met my eyes, something like unease darkening his features. “Like warnings. I’ve seen marks like these on rogue corpses before. These don’t just mean war, Rain. They mean resurrection.”

“The light must be anchored, or it will vanish—and with it, all hope.” Vesper stepped forward, desperation etched into his face. “There has to be another path. You’re the heart of this kingdom.” Elara smiled, faint but filled with fierce determination. “Hearts can burn too brightly to last.” Mira’s hands trembled as she raised them once more, weaving a circle of shimmering sigils around Elara. “We will carry you with us—in memory, in spirit.” As the sigils ignited, a gentle warmth spread through the citadel, and the stars above blazed with renewed brilliance. The ancient beings that had come forth now knelt in reverence, their forms solid and radiant, guardians reborn.

The wind stirred, whispering through her hair. She raised her hands, chanting words that rippled through the air like living sound. “Aetheris lumen, vitae vinculum, strata quinque, convenite…” The ground vibrated. Magic burst from the sigils, forming threads of color that rose and intertwined. Red, gold, blue, violet, and finally, a pure white light, spiraled together, weaving around Selene like a cocoon. The four boys' strains began channeling. Vaelen’s crimson aura crackled like lightning, the essence of Vitalis, life and blood.

Elise sat on the infirmary bed, holding her children as though she could stop it all with the love inside her. Cracks ran through the stone walls. Magic cracked like wild electricity. The difference between savior and destroyer is whether your hand wavers when you carve.”

The creature rose, its body no longer touching the ground, its eyes glowing red, the shadows around it darker than before. “What…?” Kaelith whispered, staring at Red in disbelief. The air around us turned cold; Red did indeed step back, as did Kaelith, who immediately moved toward me. I found myself in the center of a ritual circle, my body trembled from the pain that was growing more intense. Slowly, I rose, and Kaelith hadn’t reached me yet. “Kael…” The red symbol beneath my feet began to glow, growing brighter. Red prepared to dash toward me, but before he could reach me, Kaelith had already blocked his path.

Riven added, “Warnings mean the future isn’t fixed.” Silas nodded sharply. “Exactly. Which means this is preventable.” Kyren exhaled through clenched teeth. “Then we start now.” The four of them stood around me like a crescent made of teeth and fury. But the ground beneath us rumbled. The ruins… listened. And then answered. The moon-thread on the floor brightened, glowing brighter, tracing sigils in wild patterns across the stone. Those sigils rearranged themselves until they formed a single symbol. A crescent moon.

“It carries knowledge of the old ways. It is connected to blood you have yet to trace fully. Watch its markings.” I squatted low, watching as the wolf circled us cautiously, sniffing the ground, testing the air. There were sigils etched into its fur—not painted, not forced, but subtle, natural patterns formed through careful training and ritual, infused with old Blackridge magic. The lines were faint, almost invisible unless you looked closely, yet they hummed with meaning. “Blackridge sigils,” I murmured, tracing them with my mind’s eye. “They’re teaching, guiding… or warning.”

She wrapped her arms around Seren, who had a look of complete bewilderment on her face. Queen Gwen hugged my mate as soon as Mom let her go, whispering quietly into her ear. Then she moved to me, giving me a squeeze before stepping back and taking Seren's hand in hers, lifting her arm up to look at her mark more closely. A shimmering silver filigree started at Seren's wrist, intricate and feminine, wrapping around her elemental symbols as it climbed her arm. There was a clear gap in the design where I assumed her new power would imprint once she manifested it. Venus raised her hands, her fingers weaving through the air in intricate patterns as she began her incantation. Her movements were fluid and deliberate, as though orchestrating the cosmos themselves.
