Leslie’s hands clenched into fists at her sides.
Her nails pressed into her palms and for just a second, one strange and disorienting second, they felt sharper than they should. She uncurled her fingers quickly.
“And when that happens,” Victoria continued, her voice soft and venomous, “I’ll be right here. Waiting. Because unlike you, I actually belong in this world.”
She held Leslie’s gaze for one long moment.
