I hesitated for a second before answering the call. "Hello? Who's this?" I asked as I pick up the pen I accidentally threw earlier. I recieved no response. "Hello?" I stared at the screen of my phone when I thought the call has ended, that maybe he just got the wrong number. "Hello? Uhm, I guess you called the wrong number." I spoke but still, there's no response at all. I bit my lower lip to suppress my irritation. "Hey, if you just called to prank me, then I'm ending it. You're not funny. It's annoying."

"Hello!" I scream again on the phone to the person who's been calling me too many times but doesn't say anything. I know they're not butt-dialing me because I can hear them breathing through the phone. So the person is either nervous to say something or this is a stupid prank someone is playing on me. "Hello!" I say again now getting annoyed. I'd thought if I give the person more time they'll eventually master up the courage to say something. But,

That’s odd and really unlike him. I tried calling again and the phone didn’t even ring this time, it just showed call ended. Was this still part of the prank? I stopped calling and quickly texted him, baby what’s going on I don’t like this anymore please stop. Message failed. “What the hell…” I just kept staring at my screen. Failed. My throat went dry. It had to be the service provider, for sure. It had to be them, yeah. I tried calling again. It kept ending every single time and this kept going over and over and over again.

Swinging the bag on my arm, I exit the restroom and walk out in the dim hallway. "Fun facts about cell phones: when a person calls you, you answer." Xavier's voice booms over the faint music as he peels himself off the opposite wall. The man holds up his phone as an assumed demonstration. I sigh inwardly. It was only him, there was no one else. Maybe I imagined the whole thing. Maybe it is a stupid prank after all. "Hey, are you okay?" He takes a few steps towards me, his handsome features illuminated by the dim hallway light. It was etched with pure concern. It is heart-warming that he is concerned for me.

I sighed with relief, watching them start yapping again like a flock of excited geese as we eventually started visiting store after store, trying on various outfits and creating general havoc wherever we went. I was casually staring at a cute-looking pink dress that was on display in the window of a store, failing to realize that I had fallen behind when the short buzz of my phone vibrating in the back pocket of my jeans abruptly drew my attention, making me quickly pull it out to check it. There was a single message from an unknown number, simply saying, "Boo." I stopped in my tracks, my brows furrowing as I stared at the message for a few seconds, trying to understand what kind of stupid p

I looked at the ringing but it was an unknown number, there was no caller ID. I groaned loudly. Some people really need to learn. "Hello." I said as I picked up the ringing phone. "It's Mark." Mark's annoying voice sounded over the phone. "Mark?" I scoffed. "Why don't you just stick to one number?" I groaned in frustration.

After that, he gave another 'hello' to the phone: "Who the hell are you?" "Hello, sir!" Jeff's low, stereotypical tone: "This is **Bank, do you have a loan request ......" "Ad!" After saying that, the other party hung up the phone. Jeff frowned at the phone that was hung up in his hand. He darkened his face and transferred to another number: "I want you to check the IP address of a phone number where it is now." On the other side, the car on the road is speeding, the person who answered the phone hung up the phone in annoyance, another person said alertly: "The person who just called this Kourtney, could it be Kourtney's acquaintance?"

“You have my phone." I breathe heavily and mentally chanted to myself that I need to relax because it’s only going to give me pimples. I should not waste much time on people who has absolutely no plans in life but to prank call someone this late. “Hello?” I hear him calling out. I breathe out through my parted lips, "Is this some kind of a prank call because I am literally not buying it." I arch my eyebrow at no one. "As much as I want this to be a prank but it's actually not." He answers, calmly again.

I could even bet on it. “And in three, two, one.” My phone began to ring and I grinned as her caller ID popped up on my screen. It was show time. “Who the hell is this?” “Wow Claire, that's rude, even for you” There was silence on the other end of the line as if she was trying to register who was talking. “Monica?” “The one and only.” “I had no idea you had resorted to childish pranks. This isn't your usual style. Are you losing your flair now?”

Please let that have been a dream. Slowly — cautiously — she reached for her phone. Her fingers hovered above the screen. If the call log wasn’t there, she would never drink again. She unlocked it. Recent Calls. Unknown Number. 12 minutes. Her heart started beating louder. She tapped it, half expecting more. There wasn’t. No follow-up call. No messages. No missed attempts. Nothing. The absence sat heavier than anything else could have. If he was weird, wouldn’t he have texted? If he was curious, wouldn’t he have tried again?
