"We prayed for centuries..." One of the rogues says, slowly lifting his head as Atlas's hands fall from my face. "prayed to be saved, to be granted our powers, our lives back..." He says as he watches me, all of me, taking me in. "If you are the answer to those prayers, we will gladly accept it if it means to be freed from this torment."
His voice cracks as he speaks, raw and hoarse, like every word scrapes his throat. Around him, the other rogues stir, still kneeling, but their shoulders tremble, their heads lift just slightly. Their eyes burn with something that isn’t defiance now, but desperation. Hope.
