Beki gave me a sharp bark, which I pointedly ignored. “It was probably for the best,” I muttered, as I unbuckled the belt of my jeans and kicked off my boots. “The last thing we need right now is to get confused over a man who’s only going to dump us the moment he gets what he wants.”

"Gabriel," he continued, his voice firm, "what you did, the way you rejected me, it hurt more than I can ever express." Gabriel gulped hard, his shoulders dropping. "I know, and I'm very sorry, Ethan. I was an idiot. I let my ego and arrogance blind me." Ethan's eyes never wavered. "I need to know, Gabriel, why did you reject me? Why did you imply I wasn't good enough for you?"

CHAPTER 43. Eva's POV. His words tore me apart. I was beyond astounded and broken that he wanted to reject me. I expected him to vent his anger on me and yell angrily about how much I hurt him but to reject me was worse than anything else. I had been rejected once and it was going to happen for the second time. My life was worse than miserable, it had been rendered emotionless and unhappy forever. I could accept rejection from anyone else but not my Alpha Trent, he shouldn't reject me because it would be death of me. I would not be able to handle another rejection.

“Stop it, Jordan.” “Come on. You’re unmated. I’m unmated. We’re both lonely. If we’re still without a mate when we’re like forty, we should agree to mating.” “And then have to deal with that kind of rejection as well when your true mate suddenly makes an appearance? No, thanks.” “As well?” Jordan asked. “What other rejection have you had to deal with?” “Huh?” “You just said you’d have to deal with that kind of rejection as well. I’m just curious who else has rejected you? Or what have you been rejected for?”

"But he's not currently living there. His water pipe broke and—" “It was fixed two weeks ago.” I stopped and processed his words. “It was fixed?” “Yes. So instead of being a pest to us, his friends, why don’t you go check him yourself?” He ended the call after hurting my feelings. They never liked me. Why? I didn't do anything to them. Or did I? No, that's not what matters right at this moment. I rode the jeepney and walked the busy street of Rockwell. When I reached the building he resides, I gave my ID to the reception and gave me a visitation card.

I cried. Rick began to take off his belt. “Not if I have anything to say about it.” “Rick, please. I promise I didn't get them by doing anything bad. I promise.” I wiped my eyes. He unlaced his belt and I closed my eyes waiting for the first strike. After the first three hits in the first three screams, I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't do this anymore. I had done nothing wrong. I may not have earned the money they bought those clothes but I did earn the money they paid for those repairs to the bike I wrecked. I work. I've been working. I've been cleaning.

No attempts to fix it. Just silent company in the dark.
