"Hold on." There was a stormy look in her eyes. She stared intently at the ring in my hand before suddenly grabbing my hand and forcing my clenched fingers open. A silver-white ring glowing with faint moonlight lay quietly in my palm. Lina looked at it in surprise. "What's this? Is it… It looks like it has a wolf pattern carved into it." "It's a promise ring," Jayden interjected, his voice instantly turning hoarse. He gazed at me with a complicated look on his face.

It’s so beautiful! “It goes on your right hand, Karen. But you have to figure out the finger.” Bart answered briskly. He and Joanne still had those identical excited grins on their faces. Oh! A puzzle… Well, there are five options so. I tried my thumb, but it was too big for the ring. The index and middle finger were also too big. I slipped it on the fourth finger and it was a perfect fit. I held it up for Conor to see. I looked over and was surprised by the look on his face. “It’s a promise ring.” He confessed, taking my right hand and kissing the ring as he watched me intently.

This was going too far now. "Chase, what's going on here?" I looked at him, wide-eyed. He chuckled. "Don't worry, I'm not about to propose." He opened the box, and it had a ring in it. It had a silver band with a ruby as the middle stone. "If you aren't proposing, then why are you holding a ring?" I asked. I tried not to show how panicked I felt. "This is a promise ring, Meghan. I wanted to show you that I'm serious about you, and this will lock in our relationship. I love you," Chase said.

There was a ring. My mouth fell open. What? He plucked the ring out of the box, laughing at the look on my face. “It’s a color-changing ring. This is my way of saying, I’m going to propose.” I snapped out of my daze and stared at him with an incredulous expression. “You’re giving me a promise ring?” I glanced back at the ring, the words ‘color changing’ becoming clearer as it caught the moonlight and turned from a deep purple to a shimmering white. Almost like it was a diamond. The band around the shiny gem was gold with small actual diamonds interwoven around it.

“Lorenzo—” He leaned in, his hand brushing mine as he closed the box, his voice steady, almost reverent. “This is not your engagement ring. Not yet.” His thumb stroked across my fingers as he continued. “This is a promise ring. You can only ever buy one like this in your entire life. And you can only ever give it to one person.” His eyes bored into mine, unyielding. “I’m giving it to you.” The world tilted. My throat tightened, tears threatening to spill as I launched forward and threw my arms around him. “Thank you,” I whispered, my voice muffled against his shoulder.

"I'll prove my love to you, Christopher. If you're happy with something I do, give me a star. When you fill up a whole mason jar with paper stars, you'll be the one to propose to me." He held the jar and cried tears of joy like a child who'd gotten the best birthday present of his life. He wouldn't stop making promises, both to me and himself.

They were sparkling but not with tears or even being glossy; they were just shining in a way he had never seen before when someone looked at him. He just stood there looking into those sparking orbs as she began to smile as she remembered the little things that her father did for her mother. That made her look down at the ring on her hand, and she smiled even more. A promise ring for the future. One that was made to help her find herself and her memories again. She looked up to him, and he was waiting for anything to be said.

But the energy around this chain did not sit right with me. Instantly, I took an snap of it and used g****e to search for it. The pictures and descriptions it brought up made me narrow my eyes. These were called Promise Pendants. What does that mean? ‘It means a man’s way of promising her that she would be his soon.’ I sat still, my eyes going over the pendant one more time. The girl I was in love with was already promised to another man.

Turns out his mate was also an avid gamer and didn’t just repair random objects for her old pack. The morning of her birthday dawned and he was so excited to give her the gift he had got specifically for her. It was a promise ring he’d had specially made for her. It was a white gold and rose gold ring, each color crossing over the other to form one side of a heart and in the center was both their birth stones; a peridot for her and a ruby for him. It was a beautiful creation and he couldn’t wait to give it to her.

Andre’s eyes locked onto hers, and for a second, it was as if the world held its breath. No music, no clapping. Just the sound of two hearts beating synchronously. “I wanted to do this the right way,” Andre said, voice low and rough. “You’ve given me a reason to believe in something again. And this…” he reached into the dish and pulled out the ring, “this is the first promise.
