And then came the sound
Rip.
A tear so sharp, so final, it cut through the air louder than my gasp. Louder than the frantic thudding of my own heart.
The lace was gone, shredded between his fists. And with it, the lie I’d been clinging to that I could keep us wrapped in almosts and nevers.
That sound split me open.
