The scent of pine and wet earth filled my nose, mingled with the faint tang of incense Draven’s ritual had left behind.
I led them through a small glade, pins of moonlight marking our way. On my left, Korous’s column moved along the ridge above, arrows ready. On my right, Mael’s men found the river crossing, stepping into the shallow current with care, armor glinting in the night.
I paused at a fork: one path led to the old mill, the other to the northern gate. I pressed my palm to the runes carved in the stone pillar they had used to seal the ritual chamber long ago. “This way,” I whispered, turning right.
