I called out as I got up from the chair I was sitting on. We walk out of the girls locker room and run to the right side of the field. "Give it up for Woodbridge's cheer team." The crowd begins to get riled up. "The Red Angels." The announcer says and we begin running to the field. Some of the girls were doing cart wheels and shaking their pom poms like crazy. We do a few more tricks then run to the box between the goal line and the 20 yard line. We continue hyping up the guests.

ABM 12 would also probably own the dash and relay races because of their secret weapon, AJ, who has competed in the regionals. As for bench cheer, Kate has secretly assigned Grace and a guy from 12-Denali who plays the snare drum in the Concepcion Citizens’ Brigade marching band. STEM 12 benchwarmers have been practicing for three consecutive weekends in the Montemayor mansion, with free snacks and a professional choreographer no less. So, yeah, that’s pretty much in the bag. Francine and a Sehun lookalike from 12-Kilimanjaro are their bets for Mr. and Mrs. Intrams so they’ve got high hopes for that too.

My mother wouldn't stop talking about it. I bet they've won first place again, they always do. Their school hasn't lost a single cheer competition for the last two decades. Our school and other schools simply compete for second place. Nobody seems to be able to compete with Crown Academy. And Connie being the cheer captain and all, usually throws a celebration gathering for the entire squad after their victory. It's not a party, no! They just meet out at her house, chat, laugh, go shopping, chat even more, laugh even harder, watch a movie while eating loads of ice cream... Something you'd never find the cheerleaders at Berry High doing.

Chapter 35 Sera POV Today was academy sports day and the teachers decided it is better if we do it with Aldich girls academy. I was on the sidelines cheering for the boys who were currently playing football on the field. “Come on, River! You can do better than that!” I shouted from the sidelines, waving my hands frantically. River shot me a sheepish grin, tugging his jersey as he ran down the field. “I’m trying! Calla Practice ends with my lungs hot and my legs buzzing. Sweat sticks my ponytail to my neck. We are packing up, water bottles clacking. Blaire bumps her shoulder into mine as we shoulder our bags. “Crew house tonight. There's a Team party.” Before I answer, Sasha strides over with Serene and Tara flanking her. Sasha’s ponytail is too glossy. “Mandatory attendance,” she says, looking right at me. “Everyone’s going. And before you get ideas, it’s not optional. Hockey team. Cheer squad. You’re in the cheer squad, so congratulations, you’re invited.”

She laughs but then the music starts with no warning and the first group goes up with cheer routines; Hip-hop, contemporary sound and people clap politely. Then Davina’s voice cuts through the mic. “Next. Evelessa Jones.” A ripple goes through the crowd as whispers follow as I step forward. I’m wearing the tiny black cheerleader outfit from rehearsal. A crop top, short pleated skirt with my hair loose down my back. The breeze brushes against my skin. For a second as the music changes to a slow beat at first as I step onto the open space and then I stop thinking completely. My hips snap with the rhythm, my arms slice through the air.

These moves involved lifting each other up in the air, throwing them, and catching them safely. Ariel was so focused on the cheerleading practice that she didn’t see the look on Dana’s face. Dana was one of the older girls on the team, and she had never really liked Ariel. When the coach looked away, Dana’s eyes narrowed. Ariel also didn’t realize that the hands of the people who were supposed to catch her when she was thrown in the air weren’t holding her as strongly as they usually did.
