I said, voice steady and cold, “the wedding’s off.”
I walked back down the aisle through the smoke, Victor’s hand in mine.
Behind us, the roses caught next. Fire climbed the arch, consumed the candles, swallowed every last illusion.
By the time we reached the bikes, the entire pavilion was burning.
Victor pulled me against him, kissed me hard in front of the flames and the cameras and the whole world watching.
“Let’s go home, Luna,” he murmured.
I swung onto the bike behind him, wrapped my arms around his waist, and smiled for the first time in months.
