I twisted the knife for good measure, watching as the light slowly faded from his eyes. He was dead. I pulled the knife out, breathing hard as I stood over his body. The battlefield was quieting now as the rogues realized their leader was gone. They hesitated, unsure of what to do next. And then, one by one, they began to retreat, vanishing into the woods. “Ferris!” Alexandra called“We did it.” I turned to her, breathing heavily but feeling the rush in my veins. We had done it. We had won. But I couldn’t relax yet. There were still a few rogues left, and I wasn’t about to let them get away.

The blade glowed with a lethal light, charged with our combined power. Rider Storm’s eyes widened as we approached, the realization of his impending doom dawning on him. “No!” he roared, but it was too late. With a swift, powerful strike, I plunged the blade into his heart. A blinding light erupted from the wound, and Rider Storm let out a final, anguished scream before crumbling to the ground. The silence that followed was deafening. The rogues, sensing their leader’s defeat, scattered into the night. We stood amidst the ruins of the battlefield, panting and bloodied but victorious.

After a lengthy explanation and an even longer lecture from the officers, the whole fiasco ended with a 500-dollar fine.

The final moment of the race was a contest between Lauren, Wanda, and another top rider. Lauren pushed herself to the front, her brows furrowed in fierce concentration. “She’s going to lose,” I whispered, smiling. Kendra looked puzzled. I knew every expression Lauren could make in every circumstance. She couldn’t hold on. No sooner had I spoken than Lauren faltered. Wanda crossed the line first, followed closely by the other rider. Lauren crashed heavily onto the ground, and the riders behind her surged forward, pushing her rank off the first page entirely.

“They couldn’t fight back.” Damien’s jaw clenched. Robin Hood’s hand lifted slightly, then fell back to his side, as if even the movement cost him something. “And then the shots started,” he said. The words came slower now. “They didn’t miss,” Robin Hood added. “Not once. Silver bullets. Straight through the heart. Through the head.” He paused, his throat tightening slightly before he forced himself to continue. “And when that wasn’t enough…” He exhaled sharply, as if pushing the rest of the memory out.

The ring leader with the nails places the bucket down on the ground. Robin’s eyes look down to the ground. A well of tears seeping from the brightness of his eyes like a day in spring that rains. The reality sits in that his time on this plane is short and we would not get the ending that he had hoped for. Not being able to live a happy life with Leon is what kills him and forces more of the tears from his face to spill on the ground beneath him.
