Several parts of her body had turned dark blue. While she also had a hint of fright in her eyes, a golden light was hovering over the crucified snake-woman. A surge of triumph flooded Gandal, a counterpoint to the exhaustion gnawing at his bones. He had done it. He had outsmarted the elusive creature. But as he approached his captured prize, a low growl erupted from the shadows behind him. Deimon, his eyes narrowed and fangs bared, emerged from the darkness, his primal possessiveness taking hold.

A pyramid of three steps and four sides made of large crude stones rose at the center of that great clearing within the forest, with a large esplanade at its top.
