Roger sat frozen, as if turned to stone. “Roger, who was that? Was it someone who can help us?” Gloria hurried over, her face full of desperate hope. Roger finally snapped back to himself. His bloodshot eyes were filled with shock and the fury of someone who felt stabbed in the back. “What is it? Roger, what’s wrong?” Gloria stared at him in alarm. Adira rolled her eyes but caught the bagel with ease, “Thanks.” She sat on the couch and unwrapped the foil to inspect the bagel. It was lightly toasted with cream cheese spread on one side, jam on the other, and sandwiched together. With a surge of adrenaline, I tried to break free, but Roger's grip was unyielding—his strength was overwhelming compared to mine. "You don't think you'll be able to defeat me, do you?" he asked, part of his face shifting into wolf form, just like mine.

Rose peeked her head out of Caitlin’s jacket, and Roger’s eyes lit up. “Well, hello little fella,” he said, coming over and petting her. Rose licked his huge palm. “How did you know we were here?” Caleb asked.

Two gamblers, both fox-haired and reeking of cheap liquor, staggered toward the end of the street, their laughter bouncing off the low lit alleyways. The taller of the two, Rogers, wiped his nose with the back of his hand, his sharp eyes scanning the road ahead. And his eyes landed on something.. “Look there,” he muttered, elbowing his friend, Dale. His finger pointed toward the unconscious figure slumped against the tunnel wall. Dale squinted, then let out a low whistle. “Damn. That’s a fine-looking man.”
