She curled into one of the high-backed chairs near the window, a thick book open on her lap, a dark romantic comedy she’d read a thousand times. The sun was setting in orange and purple across the pages. She told herself she was reading. In truth she was still feeling Roman between her thighs from the shower, every shift of her hips reminding her how he did everything but fuck her. The door opened without a knock. Roman stepped in, closing it softly behind him. Shirt sleeves rolled to the elbow, top two buttons undone, looking too innocent for who he truly was. He looked unfairly edible. Tessa didn’t even look up from her book.

Her eyes scanned the upper row until they landed on the book, Oath of Blood. She recognized its heavy golden spine instantly. With a nervous breath, Rosa pulled it out, clutching it tightly before she stepped down. Without wasting another second, she made her way to the table and sat. Her fingers trembled slightly when she opened the book. Page after page, Rosa flipped, desperately searching for that letter. The letter wasn’t in the beginning. It wasn’t in the middle either. Rosalie flipped faster. She knew she shouldn’t be doing this without asking him but still she couldn’t help herself.

Stumbling in my black pointy shoes whilst running my hands down my red shirt and black skirt and small frilly apron, I tried to walk faster toward the other side. Roman nodded at Enzo and the latter brought a folder and put it in front of Rose. Rose opened the folder with trembling hands, afraid of what she would find in it. Pictures. At least ten of them were staring back at her, depicting Roman’s chilly and unimpressed gaze, as a woman — and not any woman but Maria — gave him a lap dance. As she tried to touch him however, his gloved hand stopped her, and then she was leaning forward, as if trying to plant a kiss on his lips… the next picture, he pushed her and she was falling backwards.

Her white lace dress was slightly dusty at the bottom from the gravel, but she still looked like an absolute angel under the starlight. "Let's go inside, Mrs. Romano," I whispered, my voice rough and full of a sudden, thick hunger. "I am right behind you, Mr. Romano," she smiled, her brown eyes dark and beautiful in the dim light. I burst into the kind of spurting giggles that would have expelled water from my mouth if there was any and Roman grins cheekily, still speaking through the mate bond as he says, “I wanted to see if those men you read of have anything on me.”
