The reluctant vow
“This is your kingdom, my queen.”
She looked around — at the twinkling lights, the lavish decorations, the smiling faces — and tried to absorb the warmth of it all. The staff clapped as they entered the nursery, a room that looked straight out of a dream. Soft pastel colors painted the walls, and two identical cribs sat side by side, wrapped in delicate lace. Tiny gold crowns embroidered on the baby blankets read Prince and Princess.
Zara’s mother held her hand, tears glistening in her eyes. “Look at what you’ve built, my child. Look at how far you’ve come.”
