She nodded slightly and walked away, her steps slow.
I stood there for a moment before turning back to the car.
“Take me to where the car race is,” I told Charles.
“Yes, ma’am,” he replied, starting the engine.
The place was already filled when we arrived. It was a wide racing ground, open and loud, with metal stands packed with people. Banners with the Lewis company logo were everywhere, hanging on rails and fences. The smell of fuel filled the air, mixed with dust and noise. Engines roared, voices clashed, and excitement buzzed around.
