She held onto her basket tightly while Usha flopped onto the seat in front of her. The blue bunny mount took almost an hour to arrive at the kingdom. The man had slowed down after they passed the forest, and it was a smooth ride all the way. Upon reaching the square, Miria was surprised to see a fountain in the middle of the square. She remembered there wasn’t any fountain here before. “Oh that’s a beautiful fountain!” Miria expressed after they stopped at the square. The man chuckled. “Ah yes, that is a newly made fountain. The queen said she wanted to give this square a fountain too like the other smaller square in parts of the town.”

“This is consecrated ground. Your, a lower human, does not belong here.” His lip curled. I’d spent the afternoon on the beach with my son, and my clothes were stained with salt and sand. Standing in the fountain now, my own royal scent was masked and my appearance that of a human caught in the rain. “My son lost a treasure in the water. I will leave once it is found. If there’s a fee for the disturbance—” “Treasure?” He sneered. “You reek of mortality. Leave now, or I may remember how long it has been since I fed.”
