Thorny vines shot out of the woods and wrapped themselves around one of the monsters, trapping it but it wouldn't hold for long. The other two ran towards me with a speed I hadn't expected from monsters their size. Blasting them with my water magic didn't deter them, instead, it angered them further. They had almost gotten to me when the mist popped out six huge monsters, five of which immediately went into action. The winged monster didn't, instead, it trotted to me and nuzzled my cheek, making me smile. The Egran, which I had decided to name my monsters, fought with Karissa's scorpion-wolves with such speed that stunned the scorpion-wolves themselves at first.

He looked through the peephole, then unlocked it and opened the door just enough. One of his men stood there, holding a tablet. “We found something,” the guy said. Carlo let him in, took the tablet, and pressed play. A grainy video began. Security footage from a metro platform. It was early morning, blurry resolution but clear enough. A tall figure stood near the edge of the platform, hoodie pulled up, face mostly covered. The timestamp matched the call to Kristen. Carlo froze the frame. “Zoom in on her hand.” The man did.

He turns his fingers in a circular motion, and the blood begins to twirl and increase. The blood on the ground is rising until it turns into a giant monster. My heart misses a beat as the monster head turns in my direction. The monster moves sluggishly in the direction of Jaden waves. When Jaden steps back, so does the monster. It's like a puppet he's controlling.
