Russian Pet Names Novels & Stories

Taking care of him was the least I could do after I let our mother slip between my fingers. "No more treats for you, you greedy fucker," he said, waving the last treat in front of Villentretenmerth. Yes, he named his dog after a character from a fantasy TV series he wouldn't get his head out of. He claimed it made the dog sound badass. Villentretenmerth was scared of his own fucking shadow. And yes, his name was a fucking mouthful, so Mikhail shortened it to just Villen. Why he couldn't go with a normal name in the first place was as good as anyone's guess as mine.

I ask when we stroll over the kennels. “No.” “You see?” I click my tongue, “this one’s a Siberian husky, his name’s Terry. This one, an Australian Dingo—her name’s Wild.” I pause, pointing to the last dog. “This one is a Rottweiler, her name’s Elizabeth.” “What?!” Spitfire swiftly jerks up her head to look at me. When she sees the smug look on my face, she curses underneath her breath, “dammit.” I have no idea why, but teasing her gives so much joy. And energy. “Her name’s Sky.”

She’s one big kid and I love her for it. Since she doesn’t speak English, we correspond in Russian while Skyping. My mom is from Kiev, Ukraine. She taught us some Russian at home, and I’m pretty comfortable speaking it. I watched her carefully. She’s drinking coffee and stroking her black cat, Ember. I remember how she found him walking home from work one evening. He wouldn’t stop following her, and she felt bad at the idea of shooing him away. Vasha is a fairly unlucky person and feared him mildly, but Ember kept walking at her heels and mewing affectionately so she took him in. I gave him his name, as she was clueless for what to do with him. Once you name an animal, it’s over. She’d laugh

Nana scolded when she started talking about how romantic and cute they are. "I don't know what to say." She tap send and waited, not paying attention to Rukayyah. She then decided to send another line; "If you could give me any pet name, what would it be?" She continue to wait as she could see he's typing. She knew he gave her mami, but she didn't know what to ask anymore. "Many. First, my sexy mami, soulmate, snookums, angel... Love, the names are endless just like my love for you." She grinned cheekily.

Hades suddenly stated, a glint of pure mischief in his eyes. Claudine flinched, a jolt going through her. Pupsik? She knew what it meant, but the sound of it, coming from him? so alien and yet so intimately directed at her, made her blush. He watched her closely, a predatory smile playing on his lips, enjoying her reaction. “What... what was that? A new name for the night?” she managed, trying to sound annoyed, but her voice was laced with genuine confusion. “Pupsik,” he repeated, clearly savoring the word. “I picked it up from a Russian friend. Always wanted to call someone that. You’re looking rather adorably cute tonight, so it seemed fitting.”
