Lily stands behind her mate, a frowning but curious look on her face. I sit back on my heels. Closing my eyes, I breathe deeply and exhale a few times until I’m calm, thanks to the few times I trained with Zayne, it’s easier for me to get there. The Abbot approaches me, and in his hands, he holds a weird rock that emits a faint glow. “This is a moon stoned. It holds the power of the moon, one of the few blessed artifacts from the goddess herself. We have been charged with keeping it safe” he passes the rock to me; I accept it with both hands after a moment of hesitation.

Drake Calloway still picked on me, followed by cold laughter from the other boy and the wolf. “Stop it, Drake.” Nathan came between us. “Why don’t we all go to the spring? I heard the Moon Goddess sometimes appears in the Full Moon.” “You still believe that bedtime story?” Bryan Waltz, the one with curly hair, chuckled. He patted the wolf next to him. “I think even Elliott no longer believes it—and he’s only ten.”

But he was right. I had to hurry inside before the urge to Mate got too intense. “Alpha, did you decide to participate in the Blood Moon Games after all?” Celeste, a beautiful she-wolf, approached, flipping her long blonde hair over her shoulder. “They’re building the bonfire now.”

With a flash, Nyra hurled a crescent of moonlight, the blade arced through the air, severing a gauntlet and sending it clattering. The second soldier raised its shield, voidfire roaring to meet her moonbeam. The two energies met in a blinding explosion of heat and frost. Nyra staggered from the shockwave, ash and cinders coating her skin. But the smell of brimstone only steeled her further. Ryker roared his approval. “That’s it, Nyra! Show them what the Moonborn can do!”
