It’s one of those moments that’s insignificant in the grand scheme of things, yet it suddenly clicks that this person is going to become irreplaceable. Mateo makes his way back to the living room with Lucas and his little brother Giano in tow. Seeing this, Rob quits trying to goad Alex into a rematch and instead yells for everyone to make their way outside for a game of soccer. The boy practically bounds out the house, most likely assuming he’ll redeem himself. He’s got a good chance – Alex might be stronger, but Rob’s long legs give him a speed advantage. Despite how gangly Rob seems, soccer is his niche.

Rhydar holds out a hand to Mina's tablet, and she hands it to him. Together, we step out off the elevator, taking a look at the wedding invitation that was posted on the academy's forum. My name is clearly written there in a lush gold font. My blood boils in my veins, my fists clenched tight. I turn to look at my mate, signing at him. 'Rhy...what do we do?' His face stays blank, his hands trembling around the tablet. 'I'll kill him,' he responds using telepathy, and my eyes go wide.

The roof leaked in interesting patterns, and the concrete floor stayed cold enough to keep the nightmares at bay most nights. My name is Nico Black. Twenty-one. No family. No future. Just scars that mapped out every place life had kicked me and a high school diploma that meant exactly nothing in a world still limping after the Swarm War. I found the letter two days ago, slipped under the warped metal door like it belonged there. Black envelope. Crimson wax seal shaped like thorns wrapped around a drop of blood. BludHeaven Academy. The vampire school. The one that had started letting humans in after the Integration Accords turned everything upside down.

I say loudly with as much syrupy-sweetness as I can. She gapes, but schools her features. "Have you been stalking me? I'd be flattered if it wasn't so pathetic." "Give me the purple prism and I won't fry your ass right now." "See what I mean, Rachel? She was violent at the academy too." "Cut the bullshit, Gwen." I clench my fists. "Give me my men back that you stole." "What is it with you and ghosts?" She rolls her eyes. "Maybe you should visit the Academy's counselor."

The Inter-Academy Grand Invitational — five schools, one track, one weekend, legitimate prize money and a trophy that apparently mattered enough to various pack hierarchies that people were already making calls. I stood at the notice board and read it twice. Warner Academy. Dumont. Nightshade. Crestfall. And a fifth school I didn't recognize — Ironveil Academy, based out of Eastern Europe, no supernatural affiliation listed, which was either unusual or a lie. "Ironveil," Adrian said, from beside me. He'd appeared quietly, the way he always did, reading the board with the focused attention he gave anything that might constitute a threat. "I've heard of them."

R.I.S.E Academy, Rise in Sakiyurai Estate... This Academy conserves people who receive the education sponsored by the Sakiyurai's. In another word, It's a total debiting school. Those who won't join a gang to pursue their careers will need to pay their debts while others need to serve their gangs to death. Either one or two. Choose! Mostly, whoever can't pay their debts will force themselves to join a gang. And her brother, Kai also happens to be one of them...

“I’m a third year Academy student, Wendy. I’ve been in the pool many times. Tell Raptor we’re on it.” I can hear her heartrate increasing, but I don’t have time to worry about her. I need to get to Cipher. “Make sure the others get across,” I say as I race to the river. From here, it looks deceptively calm. “Raptor, we’re on it,” Wendy says in the earpiece. “No offense, Sphinx, but you better fucking mean Hacker is on it,” Raptor growls. “Raptor and Siren touched ground,” he says, and then I hear him running.

"I have an announcement to make. As you all know, our pack has been without a Luna for a while now. But tonight, I proudly present to you our new Luna, Lyra!" The pack erupted into cheers and applause, their faces beaming with excitement. I forced a smile, trying to hide my discomfort. Sage's hand wrapped around mine, pulling me closer as he led me to the center of the dance floor. The music began with a slow melody that seemed to match the rhythm of my heart. Sage's eyes locked onto mine, his gaze piercing as we swayed to the music. I felt like a puppet on strings, dancing to his tune. As the dance went on he didn’t say a word but stared deep within my soul making my heart hammer, Sage's vo

"This pamphlet includes your room key, your class schedule, and your bank information through Divinity Credit Union." I open the file and look at my schedule. I have Sparring, Angelic & Demonic History, Magical Studies, and Magical Enhancement. The classes seemed interesting enough, I turned the next page, and my eyes widened, my eyebrows almost shooting off my head. "Umm, Headmaster Simmins, where did this money come from?" "Ah yes," He said, glancing over my shoulder and looking at the page I was on. "That is a monthly stipend provided by the Academy; we want to ensure that our students never go without."

A howl rose, distant and mournful. Ashwyck Academy didn’t feel like a school. It felt like a test. And monsters or not... I wasn’t planning on failing.
