Damian stared at the words. Then looked slowly at Samuel. "The explosion..." Samuel's face paled. "...was never meant to destroy the ledger." Damian nodded. "It was meant..." He looked at the black book in Samuel's hands. "...to make sure we took it." Everyone froze. Samuel slowly closed the ledger. His voice dropped to almost a whisper. "Then it's not evidence." Amara looked at him. "What is it?" Samuel's answer chilled every one of them. "It's bait."

{SAM’S POV} Sam was still reeling. That scene inside the mobile home had been so intense, he still couldn’t process it. That creep. The knife. The struggle. His cheek. And then Samantha. Samuel says as he stops next to a round table and starts flipping through the pages while I look at the green book I grabbed without looking at it. "This is a Book of Shadows. Why would a witch book be important for my soulmate's bond with Kaya? We dont make deals with witches anymore Samuel, at least not for the last three hundred years. You taught us history, remember?" Samuel snatches the green book out of my hands and puts it on the table with the rest. "I also remember you missed a few of those classes, Master Atlas." I hate being called that and he knows it. "Just show me what you found," I say as I lean on the table trying to make sense of the open pages laid out.

SAMANTHA'S POV We were still seated in awkward silence before he cleared his throat. "How are you feeling now,Samantha?"he asked. I turned to him,taking my bed covers to rewrap around my legs as the cold hit me hard. "Yeag,am okayed said giving him a sad smile. "But are you really okay?you're having nightmares and even the trauma of it all is still with you.I wouldn't fault you if you weren't "He said with remorse clouding his expression.

He was looking at Samantha. Samantha didn’t say anything. She couldn’t believe that they had found her. She’s been caught. She must continue to lie or else they would all know this is all her doing. The assassination and the attempt to poison Ruby. “You stole our secret book for this evil purposes? Humph! Karma have its way with those who are wicked!” exclaimed the tribe leader. “Lies! All lies!” shouted Samantha. “How could it be a lie?” asked Ruby, she was smiling at Samantha.

I mumbled, running my hand through the stained page. "Why don't we look at the art book you mentioned? We might find something worthy in it." Sam picked it up and went back to where he sat before, while I was still stuck with the journal. There was something odd about it; I felt as if it contained every necessary information I might need, but somebody had purposely damaged that part of the journal. "Here!" Sam tapped on the book in front of him. "I think we have found a fragment of what we are searching for." Then he began to read it out.

Sammy promised to be in half an hour and rushed to the bus stop. The store greeted her with her favorite smell of new books. Sammy thought with regret that she hadn't been here for a long time, and she really liked to read. But after that ill-fated quest, thoughts and feelings did not allow me to be distracted by reading, and even during my illness, an attempt to pick up a book failed. Trying her best not to fall back into the abyss of thinking about Travis, Samantha went to her mother. Teresa smiled happily at her, but looked tired.

I should drop the book out of the room the same way I worked out, but I can't. Halfway through the story, and I'm almost in tears. Almost. I can't even draw the line between what is true and what is not true. The story so far is about a girl who is suffering from depression and anxiety, who was bullied by both her parents and siblings. But I know Sam's mother would never hurt her; I have seen the way she looks at the woman with reverence. Plus, Samantha has no siblings, so this part is definitely fiction. She talked about music a lot in her book, and I'm just putting the pieces together to remember that Sam always carried her headphones around. I will have to force her into telling me about

He flung the book at the wall and then hid it again, wishing he could burn it like Jinnot, the young girl in the third story who was burned alive. Something about the plight of the innocent girl had affected Sam though. He identified with her on a deeper level and that released some of the nervous tension he kept bottled up. Later that night he dug the book out again and finished it by torch light. Before he recovered he’d read all three books twice over and had become an irredeemable horror fan.
