I smiled, caressing his tensed arm that wrapped around me.
"I'm just… tired."
His gaze darkened with suspicion, but he didn’t push. Instead, he let out a slow exhale and pulled me into his arms, holding me tightly against his chest.
His warmth wrapped around me, steady and grounding, like the only safe harbor in a raging storm.
“You’re safe now,” he murmured, his lips brushing against my hair. “Whatever happened out there, whatever demons you’re carrying, they can’t reach you here.”
I closed my eyes, pressing my cheek against the steady rise and fall of his chest. His heartbeat was strong, unshaken, a rhythm that could lull me into believing his words.
