“How’s the pain?” “I’ll live.” I grunted as I picked up the books she had dropped to distract myself from the pain of her checking over my injuries. “I found those on Stephanie’s bookshelf.” She chuckled. “Thought you could use something to keep you busy. I picked that one because the author has my name.” I looked more closely at the books she had brought, chuckling when I saw that one was titled ‘The Rogue Queen’ by Rory McCauley-Hayman. I waved the second book titled ‘Breaking The Bond’, in the air.

The man was a billionaire and could pay for anything he wanted as long as he could get it. I moved close to the books and tried reading some of their titles. They were mostly novels, and a little gasp fled my lips when I saw my favorite dark romance series, sitting on the shelf. The Ryan Rule by Sadie Kincaid. I loved the four books of that series so much, and although I’ve read them all, I wouldn’t mind re-reading them again. I didn’t have the money to purchase the books so I borrowed from a schoolmate. But now they were here.

The morning mist was thick, clinging to the rusted roofs like a wet shroud. "The wind is changing, daughter," Baba said without looking at me. "Last night, the air smelled of rain and solace. A kindly man stood behind the bar and introduced himself as Mr. McGrath the innkeeper. He had been expecting us and had two rooms prepared and a staff room for our driver. ISLA’S POV: The Thorne's library was located on the West wing of the mansion behind a dark heavy oak door filled rich comforting aroma of old books. The shelves were adorned in rich mahogany which stretched towards the glass ceilings. Light rays poured through the massive arched windows brightening the dust specks that drifted lazily in the air. The scent of old parchment, polished wood, and faint sandalwood from Cade’s cologne clung to the room, seeping into me like a memory I didn’t want to acknowledge.
