“This is my pack too,” he said, his voice steady now, less casual. “Or did you forget that?”
I held his gaze for a second, then let out a short breath.
“I do not forget things like that,” I replied. “I just do not trust sudden changes in loyalty.”
A faint smile pulled at his lips, not defensive, not offended, just there.
“Loyalty?” he echoed lightly. “That is a strong word to use between us.”
“Exactly,” I said, not bothering to soften it.
