Eli snaps, his voice rising in volume despite the raw burning in his throat.
“She’s a Reid,” Carver corrects him sharply. “And as long as she carries that name, she is a piece on the board. You would do well to remember which side of the table you’re sitting on, my boy. Don’t let a few weeks of playing the bodyguard make you forget what happens to people who try to switch sides in the middle of a war.”
Eli stares at him, his fists clenching at his sides, the urge to rip the IV lines out of his arms and wrap his fingers around Carver’s throat nearly overwhelming him.
