Vergilius hissed, but as smoke curled from the gash, it sealed almost instantly. Gildeon steadied his breath and pressed a clawed hand to the ground. Dark and golden fire ignited the soil in a wide arc around the vampire, carving a burning circle. Vergilius’s face twitched, stepping back as the circle cut him off from the rest of the churchyard. “What sort of trick are you trying to pull, salamander? You’ll be alright.” Anna tried to look at him and smiled weakly. She was having a blurry vision and managed to find Virgil’s worried eyes gazing down into hers. She raised her hand to touch his face and smiled. “I’m glad that I get to see you one last time before I die.” Virgil took her hands in his and shook his head in disagreement. “No baby; please don’t say that. You will live. The witch is going to do everything in her power to keep you alive.”

Promise to be faithful to her in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, to love her and to honor her?" the priest asked Zandy.
