Since she wouldn’t be able to pay the rent until she found a new job, she’d left the apartment where they’d been living together.
“So you’re unemployed and you broke up with your girlfriend. How’s school going?”
“Not good. I was working full time, so I only took two classes this last semester. At this pace, getting any degree that would allow me to start teaching is gonna take me five to six more years, instead of two.”
Silvia drank her mate in silence, eyes on the hot water running from the faucet on the dirty dishes.
“I’m going back to LA,” she said, handing the mate back to Mika.
