The shit fit like a second skin. I took her in from head to toe, "what's on your face?" I looked at my sisters accusingly. "It's just a little powder Gabe, don't be a caveman. Come on; it's too late to do anything about it; we'll be late." Is that why you two waited until the last minute? With great effort, Sarah stood up, walked to the bathroom, and washed her face. She froze when she saw her reflection in the mirror. Her right cheek was bruised in a dark blue and purple color, and her lower lip was swollen with a line of dried blood. Ronan’s slap last night had been much harder than she realized.

I ask him with the intention of taking my mind off certain someone who is still so much focused on me. "You really wanna talk to me?" He questioned, surprised. A hint of red crept on his cheeks and it took me almost a minute to figure out that he was actually blushing. "Oh my god! Are you blushing?" I exclaimed in horror and amusement, covering my mouth with both my palms gaping at him. "Shut up." He scolded and turned in his chair to avoid letting me look at his cheeks. He looks adorable when shy. Blake has slightly pale skin that makes it easy for me to figure out when he is blushing and believe me when I say so, I never ever saw him blushing before. Like never!

I ask, crawling up onto the bed and sitting next to her. “As long as James moved here. So, about a year and a half?” I watch her as she sips her tea and tilts her head back in relief. When she looks back over at me, I smile at her. Sarah is beautiful in an understated way. Her eyes are brown, almost hazel whereas mine are a striking blue. She always pulls her dark wavy hair up into a ponytail, and her face is smooth and bare of any makeup. It’s not that she needs it though, makeup would overwhelm her natural beauty.

Sighing, Sabrina splashed her face with the cold water and shook her head. Looking at her reflection in the mirror, Sabrina's eyes widened in shock after seeing herself. She almost couldn't recognize her! Her cheeks were flushed as if she was wearing a blush on. While her lips were red and swallowing as if she was beaten by a huge bee. In her case, the bee was Gabriel. Shaking her head, her eyes wandered down her neck, her body went frozen upon seeing some red tiny marks on it. Sabrina wanted to scream. Her kiss marks from the other night were not gone yet. Now, she had more on her neck and all over her chest!

“I forgot it was your eighteenth birthday. Do you actually think you’ll find a mate tonight?” I pressed my lips together instead of answering. One of the other girls in the group stepped out of the shadows. She was petite with long brunette hair, and just as nasty as the others. “What do you think, Sarah? She even put makeup on for the occasion.” Sarah scoffed and reached out, pinching a strand of my hair between her fingers. “As if mascara and lipstick could fix this ugly mug.” Before I could react, she smeared her hand across my mouth hard, wiping my lipstick all over my face. Then, she wiped her palm on my apron, staining it pink.

She was smiling politely, poised and confident. Alexandra blinked. “More Grant Wood than Grandma Moses… but you already knew that. You just wanted to see if I did.” She looked caught, then smiled wider. “Guilty. I’m Sarah Blake.” “Blake?” I hissed at William, who had stuffed a mini quiche into his cheek. “As in Mr. High-and-Mighty over there?” “I’m Alexandra,” he said, “and this is my sister Kate, and our…brother, William.” “Nice to meet you,” I said, offering my hand. “Kate Hawkins.”

After this, I need…to find a way out. “Wow,” Sarah says softly. I blink, pulled from my messed thought. “What?” She leans closer, brushing a thumb gently at my neck. “We’re going to need concealer.” I glance down at my reflection and there it is. Faint but unmistakable. A mark at the curve of my neck above my collar bone, half hidden beneath lace. Heat crawls up my face. “Shit.” “You two are not subtle,” she teases. “It wasn’t—” I stop. I don’t even know how to finish that sentence.

Blake floored the gas pedal. The mourning hall was blanketed in white, funeral music echoing softly. My photo was placed in the center. In the picture, there was the faintest hint of a smile at the corner of my lips. When Blake rushed in, Sarah's eyes were red as she lit a candle before my photo with trembling hands. "Mom!" he called hoarsely. What answered him was Sarah's hard slap. "You animal! How dare you show your face here?" The hatred in Sarah's eyes almost swallowed him whole.
