The Bear's Revenge
Hold on.
A tremor of fear flicked his way—sharp, metallic—then vanished under static.
The creature moved.
Fast.
Ronan launched to meet it. Claw met sinew; sinew didn’t behave. The cut parted along a seam that had been sown with wire, and his strike skittered, sparks spitting into the dark. The construct slid past him, limbs clanging on the grate, talons raking sparks where his throat had been a heartbeat earlier.
He pivoted, planted, drove a kick into its spine. Bone—or something pretending—cracked. It folded, snapped back, and lunged again, mouth opening on a sound that wasn’t a scream so much as a machine remembering pain.
