“Be careful, Heath, when you reach the school. There may be Van Helsings there.”
“Okay,” Heath reached out and stroked back a lock of the vampire’s hair, leaving a smear of ash on Talen’s cheek bone from his fingertips. He rubbed it off with his thumb. “Let’s go, my mate.”
They closed the distance to the school before slowing to a walk, their footsteps kicking up the ash that coated the ground in puffs, and leaving behind a treacherous trail of prints.
Around the main school buildings, there was a lot of activity, with Van Helsings loading trucks, sifting through debris, under the harsh rays of floodlights, the hum of the generator almost drowning out their voices.
