The Lycan walked in front, his presence filling the corridor like a storm cloud rolling in. Black tunic, scarred face, storm-gray eyes fixed on her with unnerving calm. August followed a pace behind, arms crossed, expression unreadable but alert.
Scarlett gasped, the sound sharp and involuntary. She scrambled backward on the filthy straw, chains clinking harshly as she fell onto her backside, scooting away until her back hit the cold stone wall. Chains rattled harshly, pulling at her wrists. Her heart slammed against her ribs, panic rising in a choking wave, breath came in shallow, panicked bursts. The shift she had been given hung loose and torn, barely covering her.
