It clicked open on its own, so easily it startled me into dropping the rag entirely. “See,” Bey said, entirely too pleased with herself. Inside: a handful of brittle, water-stained pages, tied together with a cord that had gone soft with age, and a single loose drawing on top. They were standing stones, arranged in a familiar circle, rendered in faded ink by a hand that had clearly cared enough to get the details right. My stomach dropped. I knew those stones. I had stood among them, terrified, days ago, watching runes ignite under my own hands.

"This one is from me alone. I found it at the Moonlight Antiquities Market." Eleanor's face transformed with genuine delight as she opened it. The rare brushes crafted from wolf fur, the moonstone ink stone, specialized paper, and healing-infused ink stick were clearly treasures to her. "Oh, Grace," she breathed, her eyes shining. "This is perfect! You remembered my old set was wearing out." Her wolf Stella practically pranced with excitement, circling the gift and sniffing it appreciatively. Without another word, Eleanor immediately rose to her feet. "I must try these right away," she announced, heading toward her study with eager steps. "The quality is exceptional!"

She went closer. The bridge was made up of large slabs of stones. Fascinated, Angelique touched them. As she looked closer, she found out that the stones have various symbols etched onto them. “These look ancient. .” They did not look like modern engraving of teens who like to vandalize. “ I feel like I have seen a couple of these from my history class. . like some alphabet used by old tribes.”
