“Care to explain?” he asked, his tone dangerously neutral. He leaned back, steepling his fingers. The sapphire signet ring on his pinkie caught the light. “This seems like a significant deviation from your Q3 marketing projections.”
“Mr. Croft, I… that was a terrible, private joke. A mistake. I am so deeply, profoundly sorry. It was meant for a friend, I must have clicked wrong…” The apology tumbled out, weak and pathetic.
