Then at me. “That is… a scythe of death…”

I stared at her for a long moment, speechless. Slowly, my thoughts cleared. The suffocating weight in my chest lifted bit by bit. My gaze steadied, and in my peripheral vision, I caught sight of the brilliant sunset burning across the sky. I wasn't going to die. Even if I disappeared, they wouldn't grieve. The only ones who would truly be hurt were the few who actually cared about me.

I watched helplessly as blood poured from her wound, and I didn’t need to go to her to know she was dead before her body hit the ground. “No!” She was needed to perform the spell to transfer the power and life essence back into Atlas. I was on to Remus within seconds. “What is that saying about a woman scorned?” My claws extended before I pushed them into his chest, ripping his heart out and crushing it into my hands, relishing in the way the life went out of his eyes. “Well, nevermind.
