Samantha stood in chains. She was held tight by several vampires who grabbed her arms roughly as they dragged her through the huge chamber. The room had become a slaughterhouse. Everywhere she looked, she saw thousands of vampire corpses, her former coven-members, their blood now pooling all over the floor, chopped into pieces by Kyle and his cursed Sword. That Sword held power beyond what she’d imagined.

Majority of the vampires agreed and their angry yells of ‘yes’ could be heard. “Two weeks ago, I journeyed to Athens to relay the good news to the Elders, about the Blackburn being alive, but I was disappointed to know that it is no news to them because they knew all this while,” Aamon’s expression darkened now. “The Elders have been keeping things from us for too long. They can never be trusted anymore. I decided to act on my own and with Kyle, I was able to get the witch to speak yesterday. There is a sacred book written by the Fathers of the early church after the time of the witch trials. It talks about a prophecy that will bring an end to our immortality.”

Without waiting for her response, he pulled the door behind him and left. Alone with this vast collection of knowledge, Sidia immediately started searching through all the books. She wanted to find her favorites and discover the books she had heard about and never had a chance to read, but a much more urgent matter pressed her. Terrified by her lapse in resolve and the desire she felt for Severus, she turned her attention to finding books about vampires. She had already learned much from being around them, but she needed to know more. Did they have weaknesses? What other strengths were they hiding?

The first figure materialized out of a swirl of brimstone—tall, pale, and haunting. Aron, the vampire, moved with impossible silence, his eyes latched onto Eve's throat, his lips drawing back to reveal fangs. "You're not from here, pretty pet," he murmured, circling her like a vulture. Alexander, the incubus prince, descended from the sky like a dark feather, his eyes smoldering as he inhaled her scent. "But you will be," he added. Alexander brushed the back of his fingers over the breast of her dress, her nipple hardening as it reacted to his hand.

“In everything. Silas and I don’t—” “Silas and you don’t what? Don’t meet alone? Because I just witnessed exactly that. Don’t share secrets? Because the way you silenced him says otherwise. There’s nothing between you? Because that smile I saw was the first I’ve seen in fifteen years and I find it hard to believe a damn book caused it.” “It *is* a book! Ancient texts! What Silas and I are doing is studying inscriptions that might explain why the vampires attack us, why demons appear, why everything is falling apart!”

While Vlad sat at the desk to resume the paperwork, Elena walked to the other side of the room, where an enormous bookshelf occupied almost the entire wall. The shelves stretched from floor to ceiling. She slowly ran her fingers over the titles, feeling the texture of the spines, reading names in different languages. Classic literature. Philosophy. History. Some volumes seemed... very old. Her eyes then settled on a specific title. A novel about vampires. She carefully pulled it out and examined the cover with curiosity. She turned and walked to the sofa near the fireplace. Sitting comfortably, she stretched out her legs. "I’m going to read this one..." Vlad lifted his eyes from the desk.

“Yeah, it looks like they describe exactly how he met her and when he injected a drug he called Memrose into her system.” “Bastard,” Alec mumbled as he looked down at the letter again. “He’s more than that, but it looks like there is enough here to pull him in for questioning,” “Good.” “What do you have?” “It’s a letter Lana wrote and two keys. It all seemed to add up. She herself felt some pain in the sun. But it wasn’t unbearable. And she was impervious to the holy water. What’s more, this place, the Cloisters, was filled with crosses: there were enormous crosses everywhere. Yet it didn’t seem to affect these vampires. In fact, this seemed to be their home. She wanted to ask Caleb about all of this, and more, but didn’t know how to begin. She settled on the last one.
