I swallowed hard and nodded. “Yes.”
Just then, a knock came at the door. One of Lucien’s men entered, bowing his head.
“Boss, we caught a few, but… Dima and his mother escaped.”
Lucien’s arm stiffened around me.
“And,” the man continued carefully, “we are hearing whispers. They are not alone anymore. They are gathering outsiders. Dangerous ones.”
My stomach dropped.
Lucien’s eyes turned to steel. “Mercenaries?”
