Elizabeth watches from the sofa, arms folded. Tension lines her figure. The weight of the menacing texts is still hanging between them. She is unsure which disturbs her more, the warnings or the man before her, a storm building behind his calm façade.

She sighs sharply and shakes her head. " That is pointless."
Simeon approaches, his presence imposing and oppressive but not unpleasant. "You are under my protection right now," he says, silky but steel-toned. Whoever sent those messages—whoever thinks they can intimidate you, they'll regret it."
