CHAPTER 10 The chandeliers in the ballroom dripped crystals like icicles, casting an opulent glow across the crowd of New York’s most powerful elites. Laughter, wine, and whispers mingled in the air. Everyone looked polished, dangerous, and ready for war beneath the sheen of wealth. Selene adjusted the neckline of her midnight blue dress, trying to ignore the butterflies in her stomach. The air in the ballroom of the Blackwood estate was thick with the scent of lilies, expensive champagne, and the suffocating weight of secrets.
