“I’ll be in the front waiting for you.” He was finally out of sight, and I was able to continue my search. “Are you here yet?” I mindlinked Sebastian. “I found the end of the vent. I’m climbing through now…” he said. I heard the light rattling of a vent across a couple of aisles. I cleared my throat and then coughed to cover the sound. “I’m in aisle 8.” I went toward the aisle; I could already sense Sebastian as I approached, and my entire insides melted as his scent filled my senses. I was finally going to see my husband again; I couldn’t wait to be embraced by him. But then something made me stop walking altogether.

Still nothing. I turned myself, in every direction, and squinted into the darkness with all I had. As my eyes adjusted, I thought I spotted something. “Caleb,” I said. He turned, and I raised a finger. “See that? On the horizon. It looks like a thicket of branches. Do you think?” He looked at it and squinted. Finally, he took my hand, and led me towards it. “You might have found it.”

“This is where they performed the ritual.” Leon nodded, his eyes scanning the surroundings. “We need to find out more. There might be something here that gives us a clue.” We began searching around the altar, observing every detail. Suddenly, I found a symbol carved into the ground. The symbol looked familiar, and as I touched it, visions seemed to open up before me. I saw figures hiding in the shadows, plotting something evil. They were hunters, but not just any hunters. They were part of a sect that wanted to destroy our clan.

Her voice was low. “If someone was there… we’ll see them.” She pulled up the system. Selected the date. The time. 1:17 PM. Her fingers hovered for a brief second. Then clicked. The footage loaded. Played. Selena leaned in slightly. Watching. Waiting. And then— Her expression changed. “What…?” She frowned, eyes narrowing. The screen flickered slightly. Then— Skipped. From before the time— To after it. Like that exact moment didn’t exist. Selena’s heart dropped.
