Sent back one transmission. Three words. I will come.

“I’ll be in the front waiting for you.” He was finally out of sight, and I was able to continue my search. “Are you here yet?” I mindlinked Sebastian. “I found the end of the vent. I’m climbing through now…” he said. I heard the light rattling of a vent across a couple of aisles. I cleared my throat and then coughed to cover the sound. “I’m in aisle 8.” I went toward the aisle; I could already sense Sebastian as I approached, and my entire insides melted as his scent filled my senses. I was finally going to see my husband again; I couldn’t wait to be embraced by him. But then something made me stop walking altogether.

Still nothing. I turned myself, in every direction, and squinted into the darkness with all I had. As my eyes adjusted, I thought I spotted something. “Caleb,” I said. He turned, and I raised a finger. “See that? On the horizon. It looks like a thicket of branches. Do you think?” He looked at it and squinted. Finally, he took my hand, and led me towards it. “You might have found it.”

The other side of the chasm was reflected on the little piece of glass and she saw what she thought was weird for a second. There was nothing on the other side of the chasm. The floor heaved and she clutched the walls and squinted harder, scrutinising the empty space. When she looked directly, The Seeker was right there, a wicked smile on her lips as she took in the ongoing destruction. She looked into the broken glass again, at the empty space where the Seeker should be standing and she confirmed that there was nobody there at all. It was an illusion.
