Kai had refrigerated blood waiting by the time we reached my room, and I went for it like a man starved.
“Don’t let those two out of your sight,” I said between mouthfuls, and Kai nodded, jaw tight.
“Yes, boss. I won’t let my guard down again.”
“I think I know how to cure you,” Joel said, stepping closer, his usual playfulness gone. “I don’t know exactly what they used on you, but for a pureblood to be this weak, this pale — you need blood. Not the kind from a hospital bag, not animal blood either.” He paused. “You need blood from someone you love.”
