Something felt off, a sense of unease settling in the pit of my stomach. As I waited in line, the man I had argued with earlier had disappeared, no longer obstructing my path. Yet, his absence did little to ease my growing apprehension. It was as if the universe were playing tricks on me, casting doubts and uncertainties in my mind. Why did I need to get juice today, of all days? The thought lingered, gnawing at my thoughts, but I pushed it aside, dismissing it as mere coincidence.

And I never will again. “Just think about it,” he says. “One day, you might like it here. One day, it will all make sense.” I clamp my mouth shut so tight, I taste blood. Closing my eyes, I take a slow deep breath to calm myself. Every cell in my body is practically vibrating as if I might self-combust at any moment. None of this makes sense, and there is no explanation in the universe that could ever justify any of this. The man is completely mental.
